Rooted in the vibrant folk traditions of the Indian subcontinent, The Folk Foundation reimagines timeless melodies through a contemporary musical lens. Founded in Kolkata in 2013, the ensemble seamlessly blends regional folk traditions from Bengal, Rajasthan, Assam, Gujarat, and Punjab with influences drawn from jazz, blues, rock, reggae, funk, and Latin music. Led by the evocative vocals of Dipannita Acharya, the collective creates immersive musical narratives that honour cultural heritage while embracing innovation, proving that folk music continues to evolve without losing the spirit of its origins.
