Ryuji Noda
Ryuji Noda has been active in the entertainment industry for more than 35 years, with a primary focus on music, and is based in Okinawa. In 2016, he founded the international music conference Trans Asia Music Meeting, which in 2023 evolved into the international showcase festival Music Lane Festival Okinawa. Today, Music Lane Festival Okinawa / Trans Asia Music Meeting stands as the only international showcase festival in Japan. It serves as a crucial bridge between Okinawa, Japan, and the wider Asian and global music communities. In 2025, the festival attracted more than 600 artist applications from around the world, with 60 bands ultimately selected to perform in Okinawa.
The festival highlights Okinawa’s unique position between mainland Japan and Taiwan, as well as its vibrant and diverse musical heritage that blends Japanese, Chinese, Southeast Asian, and American influences. Through this platform, He introduces Okinawan artists to international audiences while also creating opportunities for overseas musicians to establish connections in the Japanese market. Beyond his role as a festival director, Noda has become a key figure in fostering international collaboration and supporting the development of Asia’s independent music ecosystem. His work emphasizes cultural exchange, artist mobility, and the creation of sustainable opportunities for musicians across borders. In recognition of his efforts, Noda received the Tokyo Alter Music Award for Contribution to Asia in 2024. Through his long-standing career and ongoing commitment to international music exchange, Ryuji Noda continues to play a vital role in shaping the future of Okinawa as a cultural hub and in strengthening ties between Japan and the global music community.
